Sony Pictures has unveiled the first trailer for Jumanji: Open World, and this time the franchise flips its biggest rule on its head: the game is no longer trapping players inside its world. Instead, the chaos of Jumanji spills into the real world, setting up what is being billed as the final chapter of the blockbuster action-comedy series.
The trailer reunites fan-favourites Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Jack Black, Karen Gillan, Nick Jonas, Awkwafina, and Danny DeVito, while introducing a fresh twist. Spencer Gilpin accidentally unleashes the avatar games into reality, where they become stuck in “demo mode.” As a result, ordinary people begin transforming into the iconic Jumanji characters, creating hilarious mix-ups and dangerous situations which the blue the line between the virtual world and real life.
Packed with explosive action, jungle creatures roaming city streets, and the signature humour of the franchise, the trailer promises a larger-scale adventure than its predecessors. Director Jake Kasdan returns to helm the film, which serves as a sequel to Jumanji: The Next Level (2019) and is being promoted as the concluding instalment of the modern Jumanji saga.
The trailer also teases emotional moments alongside the comedy, with the team racing against time to restore the boundary between the game and reality before the world is permanently transformed. Fans can expect familiar character dynamics, witty one-liners, and high-stakes action sequences as the beloved cast embarks on “one last game.”
Jumanji: Open World is scheduled to arrive in theatres on December 25, 2026, setting up one of the biggest holiday box-office releases of the year. With its inventive premise and the return of its star-studded ensemble, the film aims to deliver a memorable farewell to a franchise that has entertained audiences for nearly a decade.
