OnePlus has started testing ColorOS 17 in India through a limited closed beta program for the OnePlus 15 and OnePlus 15R. The move marks an important shift for the company as it prepares to move eligible devices away from OxygenOS and closer to the ColorOS platform of Oppo.
OnePlus ColorOS 17 Beta Opens in India
The ColorOS 17 closed beta is currently available only to a limited number of users in India. OnePlus opened applications on August 6 and 7, with the OnePlus 15 beta reportedly capped at 300 participants. The OnePlus 15R is also included in the testing program, with a separate group of users eligible to participate.
To qualify, users need the Indian variant of the OnePlus 15, a registered OnePlus Community account and must agree to a confidentiality agreement. Participants are also required to interact with the software team through a dedicated Telegram group.
OnePlus has warned that the beta software may not be stable enough for everyday use. Testers could encounter crashes during use, app compatibility issues or unresponsive applications, which makes regular data backups important.
OxygenOS to ColorOS Transition
The ColorOS 17 beta is significant because it represents a broader OnePlus OxygenOS to ColorOS transition. OnePlus has previously indicated that combining engineering resources with Oppo could help to smooth the software development and accelerate future updates.
For OnePlus users, the transition could bring a software experience more closely aligned with Ecosystem of Oppo. However, details about changes to the interface, settings, device management and long-term update policies remain limited.
ColorOS 17 Beta Availability
For now, ColorOS 17 beta availability is restricted to Indian variants of the OnePlus 15 and 15R. OnePlus has not announced a broader stable rollout timeline yet. Users interested in testing the software should therefore treat it as experimental and keep a complete backup before installing it.
The India-first beta could provide OnePlus with valuable feedback before ColorOS 17 reaches a wider audience. More details about eligible devices and the stable rollout are expected as testing progresses.
