Marvel Studios has made one of its biggest announcements in recent years, confirming that Ryan Gosling will officially join the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) as Ghost Rider. The surprise reveal came during the studio’s Hall H presentation at San Diego Comic-Con 2026, where fans were also introduced to a new Black Panther, showcasing a major new chapter for the franchise.
The announcement ended months of speculation about the potential of gosling at the potential MCU debut. Marvel confirmed that the Oscar-nominated actor will headline a standalone Ghost Rider film, which will be directed by Haewn Levy, with a planned theatrical release in 2028. Ghost Rider, one of the most popular supernatural heroes of Marvel, has previously appeared in live-action films but will now make his official MCU debut.
Marvel also confirmed that Black Panther III is in development, with David Jonsson taking on the mantle of the next Black Panther. During the presentation, director Ryan Coogler revealed that Jonsson will portray T’Challa’s son, continuing the Wakandan legacy after the emotional events of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. The film is currently scheduled for release on December 15, 2028.
The Hall H showcase featured appearances from Ryan Coogler, Letitia Wright, Winston Duke, and Ryan Gosling, receiving loud applause from fans. Marvel also teased fresh footage from Avengers: Doomsday, while hinting at the expanding future of the MCU with interconnected storylines leading into upcoming Phase Six projects
