Shakira Wears Custom Gaurav Gupta Couture

Created specifically for Shakira’s Madrid performances, the ensemble was styled by Nicolas Bru and featured a sculptural Lunar Wolf Breastplate crafted in brass. The metallic bodice was moulded around the singer’s torso and incorporated a she-wolf motif, an image closely associated with the artistic identity of Shakira.
The breastplate looked almost armour-like, while it complex sculptural detiasl caught the stage lights . Its structured form also created a striking contrast with the fluid silhouette of the skirt.
The Golden Skirt Brings Indian Craftsmanship to the Stage
The lower half of the outfit featured a dramatic skirt made from handwoven Banarasi silk brocade from Banaras, India. Rather than following a conventional silhouette, the fabric was shaped into sweeping folds and oversized curves that extended across the stage.
The rich golden tones of the textile complemented the brass breastplate, while the changing stage lights highlighted the texture and intricate weave of the fabric. The dramatic train further amplified the movement of the ensemble during the performance of Shakira.
Over 500 Hours of Craftsmanship
The couture creation reportedly took more than 500 hours to complete, with over 10 artisans involved in bringing the intricate design to life. The ensemble combines traditional Indian textile craftsmanship with Gaurav Gupta’s contemporary sculptural design language.
Shakira’s golden Gaurav Gupta look also formed part of a wider showcase of Indian fashion during her Madrid residency. Her stage wardrobe has included creations from Indian designers, adding another dimension to the visual storytelling of her tour.
The result is a couture moment where Shakira’s stage presence, Gaurav Gupta’s sculptural aesthetic and Indian craftsmanship come together in a dramatic golden statement.
