Team India could witness a major change in its coaching setup after the ongoing ODI series against England, with reports suggesting that assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate has informed the BCCI of his desire to step down once the tour concludes. While there has been no official confirmation from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), multiple reports have indicated that the former Netherlands all-rounder has expressed his wish to move on after completing his two-year tenure.
According to reports, ten Doeschate has already communicated his decision to the Indian board and is expected to leave after the third ODI against England if both the BCCI and head coach Gautam Gambhir approve his request. His contract reportedly concluded around July 12–14, which makes this a natural point for both sides to evaluate the future.
The 45-year-old joined Team India in 2024 as part of the coaching staff of Gautam Gambhir . Since then, he has played an important role in player development and tactical planning across formats. Reports suggest that his decision is driven by personal reasons rather than professional differences. With his wife and three sons based in London, ten Doeschate is believed to be looking for a role which involves less travel and allows him to spend more time with his family.
Despite the speculation, Gambhir is understood to value ten Doeschate highly, having personally backed his appointment. However, indications are that the head coach is unlikely to stand in the way if his trusted colleague wishes to move on.
