Toyota is preparing to introduce the next-generation Fortuner, and fresh reports suggest the iconic SUV could receive its biggest update in years. While the company has not officially confirmed an India launch date, the upcoming model is expected to arrive after the launch of the new-generation Hilux, with a debut likely to be late 2026 or early 2027
The biggest talking point is the design overhaul. Since the Hilux and Fortuner share the same IMV platform, the SUV is expected to borrow styling cues from the latest Hilux. Expect a larger grille, sleeker LED headlamps, redesigned alloy wheels, updated bumpers, and a more premium overall appearance.
Inside the cabin, Toyota is likely to make major upgrades to keep the Fortuner competitive against rivals such as the MG Gloster and Skoda Kodiaq. Reports suggest the SUV could feature a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a fully digital instrument cluster, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, ventilated front seats, a 360-degree camera, wireless charging, and an updated dashboard layout.
Safety is also expected to receive a major boost. The next-generation Fortuner could finally offer customers level 2 ADAS, including adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, autonomous emergency braking, and blind-spot monitoring. These features would make it one of Toyota’s most technologically advanced SUVs in India.
Under the hood, Toyota is expected to continue with its trusted 2.8-litre diesel engine while introducing a 48V mild-hybrid system to improve fuel efficiency and low-end performance. International markets may also receive petrol options, but the diesel-powered variant is expected to remain the focus for India.
Although Toyota has yet to announce official pricing, the new Fortuner is expected to command a premium over the current model due to its upgraded technology, safety features, and hybrid powertrain. If the reports prove accurate, the next-generation Fortuner could further strengthen the dominance of Toyota in India’s premium SUV segment.
