BMW X1 LWB Launched in India at Rs 49.90 Lakh: More Space for First-Time Luxury Buyers

BMW has launched the new X1 Long Wheelbase (LWB) in India at an introductory price of Rs 49.90 lakh (ex-showroom), expanding its entry-level luxury SUV portfolio with a stronger focus on rear-seat comfort and cabin space. The new model is locally produced at BMW Group’s Chennai plant and is aimed particularly at first-time luxury car buyers.

The BMW X1 LWB is 116mm longer than the standard X1, while its wheelbase has been extended by 108mm. The increased dimensions translate into 109mm of additional rear-seat knee room, which makes the SUV better suited to buyers who prioritise passenger comfort. BMW has increasingly adopted long-wheelbase models in India, with these versions accounting for more than half of its sales, according to the company.

The SUV retains the familiar X1 design, featuring twin-pod LED headlights, BMW’s signature kidney grille and L-shaped LED tail-lamps. It rides on 18-inch alloy wheels and is offered in four exterior colours: Mineral White, Carbon Black, Night Dusk Blue and Skyscraper Grey.

Inside, the BMW X1 LWB comes equipped with a 10.7-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster. Other highlights include automatic climate control with rear AC vents, a panoramic glass roof, Harman Kardon audio, wireless charging and a powered tailgate.

Power comes from a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine producing 154 bhp and 230 Nm, paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. The X1 LWB is offered in a single sDrive 18Li variant. Its introductory price is also Rs 1 lakh lower than the standard petrol X1, which now costs Rs 50.90 lakh.

BMW says more than 50% of X1 buyers in India are entering the luxury segment for the first time. With its larger cabin, premium features and competitive pricing, the X1 LWB is positioned as an important model for the next phase of growth for BMW in India.
