Engine, Performance and Mileage
The Renault Duster Hybrid gets a 1.8-litre, four-cylinder petrol engine paired with two electric motors and a 1.4 kWh battery pack. The combined system produces 160 hp, with power delivered to the front wheels through a multi-mode automatic transmission.
Renault claims the SUV can accelerate from 0 to 100 kmph in 9.61 seconds. Its ARAI-certified fuel efficiency stands at 29 kmpl, making it a promising option for buyers who are looking for better mileage without going in for a fully electric vehicle.
The automaker also claims that the Duster Hybrid can cover up to 80 per cent of city driving in electric mode under suitable conditions. Since it is a self-charging hybrid, the battery recharges through regenerative braking and the petrol engine, eliminating the need for an external charger. Renault further claims a combined driving range of more than 1,400 km on a full tank.
Features and Design
The hybrid version retains the Duster’s rugged exterior styling, muscular body cladding and distinctive lighting elements. It also gets illuminated Duster lettering on the front grille and E Tech Hybrid badging.
Inside, features include a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a digital driver display and dual-zone automatic climate control. Higher variants offer a panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats, an electrically adjustable driver’s seat and a powered tailgate.
Rivals in India
The Renault Duster Hybrid competes with the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara Hybrid, Maruti Suzuki Vitara Hybrid and Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder Hybrid. Its claimed 29 kmpl mileage and strong hybrid powertrain could appeal to buyers prioritising fuel efficiency, everyday comfort and long-distance driving.
With the introduction of hybrid technology, Renault aims to attract customers looking for an alternative to conventional petrol SUVs while retaining the Duster’s familiar rugged appeal.
