Sara Ali Khan Wears Gaurav Gupta’s Sculptural Ivory Couture With a Mogra-Inspired Twist

Sara Ali Khan’s latest couture appearance makes a compelling case for reimagining the Indian saree through a more sculptural lens. For The Bride Side, the actor wears an ivory tulle saree-gown by Gaurav Gupta, where architectural construction meets the delicate floral details associated with traditional Indian bridalwear. The result is a look that feels rooted in cultural symbolism without being bound by conventional bridal silhouettes.

Sara Ali Khan’s Gaurav Gupta Look Reimagines the Saree

The ensemble, titled Emergence, features in the seventh season of The Bride Side, themed The Scent of Divinity. It draws from Gupta’s Spring/Summer 2026 Paris Couture collection, The Divine Androgyne, bringing the designer’s signature sculptural approach to a garment closely associated with Indian occasionwear.

The gown’s corset-style bodice creates a defined, architectural shape, while layers of sheer tulle soften its structure. Saree-inspired draping runs through the silhouette, accompanied by a high slit and an extended train that lends the look a sense of movement. Rather than reproducing the familiar outline of a traditional saree, Gupta reshapes its elements into something closer to contemporary evening couture.

The embroidery gives the ensemble its most distinctive detail. Hand-embroidered mogra tassels trace the shoulder and waist, introducing a floral motif deeply familiar in Indian rituals, temple offerings and bridal adornment. Against the pale tulle, the flowers bring texture and cultural resonance without interrupting the gown’s clean, sculptural lines.

The Cultural Significance Behind the Mogra Detail

What makes the design interesting is the relationship between its traditional references and modern construction. Mogra carries associations with devotion, celebration and Indian ceremonial dressing, but here it is integrated into an unconventional silhouette rather than used as a conventional finishing touch.

That contrast speaks to a continuing conversation in Indian couture: how can designers reinterpret familiar cultural codes without losing their meaning? Gupta approaches the question through proportion, draping and surface detail, allowing the saree’s identity to remain visible even as its form changes.

The styling follows the same restrained direction. Sara wears minimal jewellery, including a delicate bracelet, with embellished white heels. The pared-back accessories leave the embroidery, sheer layers and sculpted bodice to command attention. Celebrity stylist Ami Patel is credited with styling the look.

For Sara Ali Khan, the campaign offers a striking departure from more predictable occasionwear formulas. For Gupta, it demonstrates how a traditional garment can become a starting point for experimentation rather than a fixed template.

The appeal of this ivory couture look lies in that balance. Its silhouette is distinctly modern, but the mogra embroidery gives it an unmistakably Indian sensibility. Neither element overwhelms the other, allowing the gown to move between heritage and contemporary design with considered precision.
