Reliance Consumer Products Limited, the FMCG arm of billionaire Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance Industries, has entered the competitive ice cream market of India with the launch of Bombay Creamery. The new brand is positioned as an accessible premium dairy ice cream offering, with products starting at affordable price points.
Bombay Creamery Launch
The new ice cream brand offers products across multiple formats, including cones, cups, tubs, bars and sticks. According to Reliance Consumer Products, Bombay Creamery is made using real dairy cream and aims to combine quality with affordability.
The products are initially being rolled out across western India, with Reliance planning to expand the availability of Bombay Creamery across the country. The company’s extensive retail and distribution network is expected to play a key role in its nationwide expansion.
Affordable Pricing Strategy
The affordable pricing of the brand is expected to be one of the key attractions of Bombay Creamery. Reliance has previously used an aggressive pricing strategy with brands such as Campa, helping it gain attention in India’s highly competitive consumer market.
Competition With Amul and Other Brands
Bombay Creamery enters a market dominated by established names such as Amul, Vadilal, Mother Dairy, Kwality Wall’s and Arun Icecreams. Global brands including Magnum and Baskin Robbins also compete in the growing ice cream segment of India
With affordable pricing, dairy-focused products and Reliance’s large retail ecosystem, Bombay Creamery could intensify competition in the packaged ice cream market in India. The planned nationwide rollout will determine how quickly the new brand can establish itself among Indian consumers.
