Fans of Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara finally have a reason to celebrate. Director Zoya Akhtar has confirmed that a sequel to the 2011 cult classic is currently in development. The filmmaker, however, stressed that the project is still at an early stage and will move forward only if the team finds the right story for the beloved characters.
Speaking about Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara 2, Zoya said that the team is working on the idea but is still figuring out how the characters can be brought back in a way that feels relevant today. She indicated that there is no certainty yet about how the story will evolve, but added that revisiting the characters would be exciting if the right narrative comes together.
The original Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara starred Hrithik Roshan, Farhan Akhtar and Abhay Deol as Arjun, Imran and Kabir, three friends who embark on a life-changing road trip across Spain. The film became a generation-defining hit, celebrated for its themes of friendship, self-discovery, adventure and overcoming personal fears.
Speculation surrounding a sequel intensified after Hrithik Roshan, Farhan Akhtar and Abhay Deol reunited for a 2025 advertisement for Yas Island. Many fans initially believed the reunion was connected to ZNMD 2, although the commercial was not a film teaser. Zoya later recalled the confusion and the strong reactions she received from fans who thought the sequel had finally been announced
Earlier reports had also suggested that Zoya Akhtar was developing a story that would revisit the trio years after their original Spanish adventure. However, the makers have not yet officially announced the final cast, release date or production timeline.
