Bajaj Auto has expanded its popular Pulsar N160 lineup with the launch of two new variants, the Pulsar N160 S and N160 SS. Priced at Rs 1.34 lakh and Rs 1.43 lakh respectively (ex-showroom, Delhi), the new motorcycles bring a more powerful four-valve engine, updated hardware and additional technology. The existing Pulsar N160 will continue to be sold alongside the new variants.
New 4-Valve Engine
The biggest change on the new Bajaj Pulsar N160 S and N160 SS is the 164.5cc, single-cylinder, oil-cooled four-valve engine. It produces 18.5hp at 9,500rpm and 14.5Nm at 8,000rpm. This represents a 2.5hp increase over the outgoing 2-valve engine, although the peak torque is marginally lower
The motorcycles also get an electronic throttle body, which allows the Bajaj to introduce multiple riding modes. Riders can choose between the Road, Rain, Sport and Off-road modes. The bikes also feature Crawl Technology, which is designed to make low-speed riding much easier with reduced clutch input. The N160 SS additionally gets traction control.
More Hardware and Features
Bajaj has upgraded the suspension with 37mm USD front forks, replacing the previous 33mm units. The front disc brake has also grown to 300mm. Other dimensions remain largely unchanged, including the 795mm seat height, 14-litre fuel tank and 151kg kerb weight.
The N160 S gets an LCD instrument console with Bluetooth connectivity and navigation, while the top-spec N160 SS gets a 5-inch TFT display with Google Maps mirroring, along with Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity. Adjustable levers are also exclusive to the SS variant.
Both motorcycles will be available in Atlantic Blue, Pearl Metallic White and Brooklyn Black. With the new engine and technology package, the Bajaj Pulsar N160 S and N160 SS aim to strengthen the position of Bajaj in the competitive 160 cc motorcycle segment in India.
