The encounter between the two top players featured moments of controversy. Play was temporary holded off for the closing of centre court’s roof, a decision which frustrated both the players . Djokovic openly questioned the timing of the interruption and questioned the chair umpire, telling him, “Wimbledon is an outdoor sport,” as he felt there was still enough daylight to continue playing outside. After the brief pause in the game, play resumed under the closed roof, with the Serbian eventually regaining his rhythm and getting the better of No.3 seed Auger-Aliassime in the decisive stage.
With the victory, Djokovic achieved another remarkable milestone by registering his 106th Wimbledon match win, surpassing the legend Roger Federer for the most men’s singles victories at the All England Club.
