Indian shooting suffered a major loss as celebrated shooter adn coach Jaspal Rana passed away at the age of 49. The National Rifle Association of India [NRAI] confirmed this news, setting off an outpouring of tributes from athletes, sports administrators and political leaders across the country.
Rana was one of the most accomplished indian shooter, clinching multiple medals at the Asian Games, Commonwealth Games and other international competitions during his career, which spanned more than two decades. His achievements made him one of ht emost recongnizable faces in the Indian shooting, while his transition into coaching helped shape the next generation of champions.
According to the reports, Rana fell ill while returning from the ISSF world cup in Munich with the Indian contingent .he was rushed for medical treatment after landing in New Dehli adn underwernt a procedure, but could not be saved. Several reports showcased that he suffered a cardiac emergency.
Beyond his accomplishments as an athlete, Rana has earned widespread respect as a coach. He played an important role in the development of Indian pistol shooting and was best known for his mentoring of Olympic medalist Mnau Bhakar. Bhakar has credited the guidance of Rana as a key factor in her success, including her historic medal-winning performance on the international stage.
Contribution of Rana to Indian sports was widely recognised through the prestigious honours such as the Arjuna Award, Padma Shri, and the Dronacharya Award. His influence extended far beyond
