Meta Launches Paid Subscriptions for Instagram, Facebook and WhatsApp, With AI Plans on the Way

Meta has officially entered a new era of paid social media, launching its subscription services across s Instagram, Facebook and WhatsApp as the tech giant looks to expand beyond its traditional advertising business. The new premium plans, called Instagram Plus, Facebook Plus and WhatsApp Plus, are now rolling out globally with exclusive features which are designed for power users and creators. 

The subscriptions start at $3.99 per month for Instagram Plus and Facebook Plus, while WhatsApp Plus is priced at $2.99 monthly. Users who will be subscribing to this will be gaining access to a range of extra features, including the longer-lasting Stories, priority visibility for posts, anonymous story viewing options, enhanced reactions and additional customisation tools. WhatsApp Plus subscribers will also receive explained chat management features and premium sticker packs .

According to Meta, the move is aimed at giving users more choice while creating new revenue streams beyond digital advertising. However, the biggest development may still be ahead for them. Meta has confirmed it is testing a broader subscription ecosystem called “Meta One “, which will include premium AI-powered plans. These upcoming tiers are expected to offer advanced image and video generation tools for the users, higher usage limits for Meta AI, enchanted creator features and exclusive business-focused capabilities. Some AI plans could cost as much as $19.99 per month, while enterprise-focused offerings while we coming at a much higher rate. 

The company plans to begin testing the AI subscriptions in select countries before expanding its availability. Analysts have viewed the move as a part of a wider trend among the major technology companies looking to monetise AI products while reducing their dependency on advertising revenue. 

For Users, the core versions of Instagram, Facebook, and WhatsApp will remain free. But with premium features, AI tools, and creator-focused, be looking quite different from the free platforms billions have used for years.
