Sony has officially unveiled the latest flagship in its Xperia lineup, the sony Xepria 1 Sony Xperia 1 VIII, which brings in the major design changes and powerful hardware upgrades aimed at photography and multimedia enthusiasts. The smartphones debuted in Japan and is expected to come across selected global markets very soon.
The Xperia 1 VIII is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset built on a 3nm process, paired with up to 16GB RAM and up to 1TB internal storage. Sony has also retained expandable storage support through a microSD card slot, something which is rarely seen in the premium flagship smartphones.
One of the biggest highlights of the device is its revamped camera system. Sony has moved away from its vertical camera strip and come up with something new, a square-shaped camera island. The phone features a triple 48MP rear camera setup, including a primary sensor, an ultrawide lens, and a redesigned telephoto camera capable of extended zoom performance. Some of the reports suggest that the telephoto sensor is noticeably larger than the previous generation, improving the low-light photography and the detail capturing.
The smartphone sports a 6.5-inch Full HD+ OLED LTPO display with a 120Hz refresh rate, HDR support, and Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protection. Sony continues to keep its focus on creators and media consumers by retaining the stereo speakers, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and advanced audio tuning.
Running on Android 16, the Xperia 1 VIII is promised to receive four years of OS updates and six years of security patches. The device comes with a huge 5,000mAh batter y having a 30W charging support.
The pricing of the phone starts at JPY 235,400 (roughly Rs 1.43 lakh) for the base variant, while the top-end variant of the phone, the 16GB + 1TB model, goes up to JPY 299,200.
