97 Bengaluru Employees Fall Ill After Eating Idli-Vada: Food Safety Concerns Rise

In a concerning food safety incident, at least 97 employees of a private company in Devanahalli, Bangalore area, were hospitalised after consuming idlis, vadas, and ambhar rice at their office canteen. The case is being treated as a suspected case of food poisoning, with authorities launching an investigation into food preparation and hygiene practices. 

According to reports, employees have idlis and vadas for breakfast, followed by rice and sambhar for lunch . By evening, many started experiencing symptoms such as abdominal pain, vomiting, and diarrhoea, which are classical signs of food-borne illness. Several indivuals requires hospitlaisation and were treated with intravenous fluids. Fortunately, no casualties were reported so far. 

Health officials have collected food samples from the canteen and lab results area waited to determine the exact issue of the contamination . Investigations are focusing on storage conditions, food handling and overall hygiene standards at the facility. 

Experts have highlighted that fermented food, such as idli batter, is particularly vulnerable to contamination, especially during the summer months. High temperatures and humidity can speed bacterial growth, which makes improper storage or delayed consumption risky.\

The incident has once again brought attention to food safety pratices in workplaces and public eateries . The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) advises strict hygiene, proper refrigeration, and timely consumption of fermented foods to prevent outbreaks of this kind 

This case emphasises the importance of sticking to the food safety guidelines, especially in a large-scale cooking environment, where even any minor lapses can impact the lives of dozens of people at once..
